The Creighton baseball and softball coaches got a workout on Tuesday morning, clearing snow off the two fields.
“I’ve gone through three pairs of socks and two pairs of shoes,’’ softball coach Brent Vigness. “This is going to be well worth it.’’
The softball staff helped clear off the baseball field so the women could work on their team defense Tuesday afternoon. They planned to do some outfield work on the softball field, where pools of water covered parts of the infield.
Vigness said about seven members of both staffs started working at about 10 a.m. to spread the snow so that it would melt faster. A few members of the softball team helped shovel instead of having their regularly scheduled weight lifting group.
Because of the location of the field and the buildings nearby, the softball field doesn’t get a lot of direct sun, leaving piles of snow behind.
When the snow is spread over the turf, Vigness said, it melts quickly.
The baseball team made a big dent on clearing off their infield over the weekend.
“The interesting part is you work up a sweat on top and you are wet and cold on the bottom,’’ Vigness said.
The softball team opens the season Thursday with games against New Mexico and San Diego State at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. The baseball team begins its season Feb. 15 with three games at Dallas Baptist.
