Construction of the Village Pointe Toyota dealership, located just northwest of the 180th Street and West Dodge Road intersection, is now under way.
Omaha-based Darland Construction Co. has begun work on the new 57,000 square-foot building, which was designed by Omaha's Purdy & Slack Architects, and features a mix of glass and aluminum composite panels.
Grading and installation of an underground storm water detention system on the site is the first step in the dealership's construction, Darland project manager Mike Thomsen said in a news release.
Thomsen, who has managed the construction of the Woodmen of the World Community Center and other facilities, is managing the project.
When completed this summer, the 7.8 acre auto dealership, which is owned by the Van Tuyl Group, will be able to display 550 new cars and provide 100 parking spaces for customers and staff, nearly tripling the capacity of the existing Old Mill Toyota site.
Darland Construction, which was founded 60 years ago, is also working on several other Omaha-area projects, including the Victory Apartments and office renovation and the electrical upgrade of Mercy Medical Center.
