Huskers get commitment from tight end

LINCOLN — The newest member of Nebraska’s 2013 recruiting class used social media to announce that he made an oral commitment to the Huskers.

Tight end Cethan Carter tweeted just before 10 p.m. on Thursday: “Finally committed to Nebraska baby! Thank God!”

Carter, a 6-foot-4 240-pounder out of Metairie, La., visited Lincoln last weekend and was set to host Husker coaches in Louisiana on Thursday. He didn’t waste much time to publicly pledge to NU.

Tight end was a position of need for Nebraska — veterans Ben Cotton and Kyler Reed have exhausted their eligibility. Carter’s now one of two tight ends (Greg Hart’s the other) in the Huskers’ 2013 class, which now has 21 known prospects.

Carter helped Archbishop Rummel High School to the Class 5A state title last month, catching five passes for 74 yards and a touchdown in a 35-14 win. He was named to Louisiana’s All-District 9-5A team.

Carter does hold a grayshirt offer from LSU, meaning he wouldn’t earn a scholarship until January 2014 when he would officially join the Tigers’ program. He reportedly has full scholarship offers from Southern Miss, Louisiana-Lafayette and Memphis, among others.

He can’t make his commitment to Nebraska official until signing day on Feb. 6.

Carter’s a three-star prospect (out of five possible), according to and 247 Sports. tabs him as a two-star recruit. ESPN has not rated Carter. He’s the No. 13 overall recruit in Louisiana, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
