» Interstate 680: Resurfacing will begin in May between the Fort Street interchange and the Missouri River. The highway’s bridges and concrete base will be repaired first, followed by construction of a new asphalt driving surface. Estimated cost: $18 million. Estimated completion: concrete repairs, fall 2013; asphalt resurfacing, 2014.
» Council Bluffs: Construction of two new interchange bridges will continue at the western junction of Interstates 29 and 80 east of the Missouri River. The project is part of the long-term expansion and realignment of I-29/80 between the river and the eastern junction of the two Interstates. I-80, I-29 and I-480 in Council Bluffs are being rebuilt to replace outdated structures and accommodate traffic demands. Estimated cost: $43.2 million. Estimated completion: fall 2014.
» L Street “Stockyards” bridge (U.S. Highway 275-Nebraska Highway 92): Redecking and repair of the westbound lanes began last fall and will be followed by redecking and repair of the eastbound lanes and replacement of the median. Estimated cost: $12.4 million. Estimated completion: fall 2013 (westbound); fall 2014 (eastbound); summer 2015 (median replacement).
» Nebraska 133 expressway: Work resumed in November on expansion of the highway from two to four lanes between Omaha and Blair. The current project will extend the expressway 4.6 miles from just north of Nebraska 36 into Washington County and past the Blair Municipal Airport. Estimated cost: $22.6 million. Estimated completion: summer 2015.
» 144th and Blondo Streets: Work will begin in March on the second phase of the reconstruction and expansion from two to four lanes of 144th between the West Dodge Expressway and Corby Street and of Blondo from 135th Street to El Dorado Drive. The stretch of 144th from the expressway to Franklin Street was finished in November at a cost of $3.6 million. Estimated cost: $7 million (second phase). Estimated completion: summer 2014.
» Street resurfacing: Projects in 18 locations are planned for 2013, with 13 of them on major streets and the rest on residential streets. Significant major resurfacing projects include Leavenworth Street between 48th and 60th Streets; 108th Street between Blondo and West Dodge Road; and Fort Street between 90th Street and Blair High Road. Estimated cost: $5.4 million (combined). Estimated completion: various dates.
» Fort Crook Road: A $270,000 project will reduce the street from six lanes to four over a 10-mile stretch south from the Douglas County line. Fort Crook Road will be restriped to include bicycle lanes. Estimated cost: $270,000. Estimated completion: May 2013.
» New Missouri River bridge: Construction continues south of Bellevue on the bridge and approaches on both sides. The bridge and approaches will become the new route of U.S. 34, which currently connects U.S. 75 at Plattsmouth to Interstate 29 west of Glenwood, Iowa. Work on the Iowa approaches in 2013 will include paving of the eastbound lanes between the river and I-29 and completion of a new eastbound bridge at the interchange with I-29. The Nebraska approaches will run northwest from the river to a new interchange with the Kennedy Freeway at Platteview Road. Estimated cost: bridge, $88.9 million ($61.3 million, Iowa; $27.6 million, Nebraska); Iowa approach, $35 million; Nebraska approach, $13.2 million; Platteview Road interchange, $17.9 million. Estimated completion: Platteview Road interchange, summer 2013; Missouri River bridge and approaches, fall 2014.
Kennedy Freeway (U.S. 75)
» Cornhusker Road interchange: A new shoulder will be added to the southbound exit ramp, converting the existing shoulder to a right-turn lane. The northbound exit ramp will be restriped to add a second left-turn lane. Estimated cost: $330,000. Estimated completion: late 2013.
» U.S. 75 freeway-expressway: Work began in spring 2012 on a 3.6-mile-long project that continues the larger expansion of U.S. 75 from two to four lanes between Omaha and Nebraska City. The current project includes new Platte River bridges and a new interchange at Bay Road. It will extend the Kennedy Freeway from the pending U.S. 34-75 interchange at Platteview Road south into Cass County. Estimated cost: $68.3 million. Estimated completion: fall 2015.
» Washington Street (84th Street): Work will begin in the fall on a two-stage project to expand the street from two to four lanes from Capehart Road to north of Nebraska Highway 370. The first phase covers Capehart north to Schramm Road and some preparatory work north of Highway 370. Estimated cost: $7.9 million (combined). Estimated completion: 2014 (Capehart to Schramm); second phase, undetermined.
» Highway 370: Construction will continue on a 4-mile-long expansion from two to four lanes between I-80 and Gretna. Estimated cost: $24 million. Estimated completion: fall 2013.
