It's official — 2012 was a record-breaking year for Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium.
Annual attendance was the highest ever. A total of 1,719,925 people visited Nebraska's No. 1 tourist attraction and TripAdvisor's No. 1 zoo in the country. The previous record was set in 1995 which had an attendance of 1,602,831.
The zoo's educational programs also played host to a record number of children and adults. The education department offered 936 programs that included classes, camps, family events and outreaches to 95,975 people, a 25 percent increase over 2011 in class attendance and a 32 percent increase for overnight campouts.
