The Nebraska flag football team won the NIRSA national tournament in Orlando, Fla., last weekend.
The NU squad got some revenge, beating Angelo State 27-14 in the final. Angelo State had beaten Nebraska at regionals.
Former North Platte quarterback Corey Serrano was named the most valuable player.
Earlier, the squad made it to the final of the ACIS tournament in Pensacola, losing to Kenesaw State 27-7. Serrano and linebacker and cornerback Kevin Dickens were picked as All-Americans.
The team rallied from 12 points down with eight minutes to go against Central Florida to reach the final.
“I wish we could have brought the first one back home,’’ coach and player Jamaal Hale said. “We were out of gas.’’
The Nebraskans finished their season 34-2. Hale credited team chemistry, good coaching and good players.
“When you have an all-star quarterback like Corey Serrano, it’s tough,’’ he said. “He’s a good quarterback.’’
