Nebraska was one of two states that saw their hottest, driest year on record in 2012, according to a national report released Tuesday. The other state was Wyoming.
Across the lower 48 states, 2012 was the hottest on record, the National Climatic Data Center reported Tuesday in its State of the Climate report.
Iowa fared a little better – it saw its second warmest and 11th driest year on record.
The report is based on 118 years of record keeping.
Nationally, 2012, with its 11 disasters of $1 billion or greater, was the second most extreme year on record in the U.S. The hot year of 1998 remains the most extreme.
