FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The UNO men’s basketball team finished its weekend road swing Saturday with a 96-78 loss to Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne.
Junior guard Justin Simmons paced the Mavericks (4-14, 1-5 Summit League) with 24 points on 11-of-18 shooting and added a team-leading six rebounds. The performance was his fourth 20-plus point effort this season and his third straight.
UNO freshman guard Marcus Tyus poured in a season-high 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting.
IPFW (8-9, 1-2) grabbed control early as it scored eight straight points to increase its lead to 29-14. The Mastodons, who hit 14 3-pointers on the day, led 43-22 with five minutes left in the first half before UNO closed the gap to 47-36 by halftime.
IPFW’s biggest lead in the second half was 18 points, but the Mavericks never put together a big run as the Mastodons’ lead stayed in double figures.
IPFW (8-9, 1-2) had four players score in double figures, including two who finished with double-doubles. Michael Kibiloski had a career-high 26 points with five 3-pointers and 10 rebounds to lead the Mastodons.
Mario Hines also had a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards, while Frank Gaines added 26 points and Luis Jacobo finished with 16 and five assists.
