A woman and her baby escaped a fire Friday at the Plaza 93 West Apartments, Omaha fire officials said.
Both were taken to a local hospital in critical condition, an emergency dispatcher said.
Firefighters arrived at 3290 N. 93rd St. about 4:30 p.m., said Battalion Chief Bernie Kanger.
The apartments are near 93rd Street and Bedford Avenue.
Kanger said the two-alarm fire started in the woman's kitchen. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze.
Officials called in a second alarm over concern that the fire could spread throughout the apartment complex, he said.
However, it was contained to the woman's apartment and no other tenants were displaced.
