NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — Fans of Danny Woodhead, running back for the New England Patriots, can now show their support of the NFL player by dressing in clothing that has been designed for him.
The North Platte native has launched his own clothing line and enlisted the help of his friends back home to do it. Jordan and Crystal Vigil plan to offer DW39 attire through their Operation Clothing company, which they started four months ago.
The new venture began Dec. 1, when the Vigils took their products to a boutique hosted by Annette Woodhead, Danny's mother.
“It was her idea,” Jordan said. “She saw our stuff and said, 'You should do this for Danny.'”
Crystal said Woodhead was enthusiastic when the idea was pitched to him. It helped that he and Jordan have been friends since they were kids.
“He trusts us, and we trust him,” Crystal said. “We want to eventually develop an athletic line.”
Chris Gittings, Woodhead's agent, said it's been fun watching Woodhead's excitement over the project. Gittings is excited, too. Although it's not unheard of for NFL players to launch their own lines, Woodhead is the first person Gittings has represented who has done so.
“It's been a learning experience, but that's what makes my job fun,” Gittings said. “We're hoping this is something his fans will enjoy.”
Jordan and Crystal hope so, too. It has given Jordan a way to support and keep in touch with a friend whose time is often limited because of the demands of his job and fame.
“It's great that we get to work together,” Jordan said. “Whenever you have an NFL player wearing your products, it's a good thing, but it's good for Danny just as much as for us. Hopefully it will increase his fan base and help prolong his career.”
Crystal said she would like to give some of the proceeds from the clothing to local charities.
“I see this as an opportunity for us to help others,” Crystal said.
Whitetail Screen Print in North Platte will print the DW39 line. Crystal said the first shirts would be available soon at Da Buzz Coffee House in North Platte and on the Operation Clothing Facebook page.
Gittings said so far no promotional events for the products have been scheduled with Woodhead, but he wouldn't rule them out.
