COUNCIL BLUFFS — An 86-year-old Council Bluffs woman was injured when she was hit by a minivan while walking downtown.
A rescue squad took Maria Tweedy to Mercy Hospital after she was struck in the 600 block of West Broadway.
Police reports indicated Tweedy was eastbound on the south side of the street when a 2003 Dodge Caravan driven by Joseph Sliva, 44, of La Vista tried to leave the parking lot of the U.S. Post Office at 8 S. Sixth St.
Tweedy told police she thought the driver of the van was allowing her to cross in front of the vehicle, but she was hit by the van's mirror and fell. Both of her feet were run over by the minivan.
Sliva said he thought the pedestrian was far enough away that he could proceed onto West Broadway. He was cited on suspicion of failure to yield from a driveway.
