An Omaha police officer who agreed to be caged in the cold as part of a Special Olympics charity event has met his $5,000 fundraising goal.
The department announced Monday that Officer Kevin Wiese raised $5,000 after receiving one final contribution of $489.
The Cage a Cop fundraiser is associated with the Law Enforcement Torch Run Organization, which raises money for the Special Olympics. In 2011, officers around the world raised more than $42 million, and Nebraska law enforcement officers raised $238,000 for Special Olympics Nebraska.
Last year, Wiese raised about $4,300.
