ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Nebraska football recruit Adam Taylor rushed for 277 yards and five touchdowns, including a 56-yarder for the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter, and Katy held off Cedar Hill 35-24 in the Texas Class 5A Division II high school championship game Saturday.
Katy was trailing 24-21 when Taylor broke free on his long scoring run with 6:46 remaining. Taylor’s 42-yard TD run with 1:55 left clinched the Tigers’ seventh state championship and their first since consecutive titles in 2007 and 2008.
Taylor also scored on runs of 10, 17 and 10 yards.
Katy (16-0) is tied with Abilene, Brownwood and Plano for the third-most championships in Texas history. Celina and Southlake Carroll have eight apiece.
Taylor finished with 30 carries, powering a Katy ground attack that gained 355 yards on 46 attempts.
