Notes: Marrow in the mix at Kentucky; Long honored

Nebraska offensive graduate assistant Vince Marrow is in play for an assistant coaching job at Kentucky, where Mark Stoops has just taken over as head coach.

A source close to Marrow — who went to Youngstown (Ohio) Cardinal Mooney like Stoops and Nebraska coach Bo Pelini — said Kentucky had extended an offer, but Marrow hadn't signed a contract.

Marrow, 44, joined NU's staff two years ago as a graduate assistant for tight ends. His son, Mike, started two games as the Huskers' fullback. Vince Marrow has received a waiver from the NCAA to recruit on the road instead of Husker offensive line coach Barney Cotton, who continues to rehab from surgery early last year.

Marrow's ties in Ohio have helped Nebraska land 2012 safety signee LeRoy Alexander and 2013 commit Antoine Miles, a defensive tackle who verbally pledged to NU on Friday. Marrow is the Huskers' lead recruiter on junior college tight end Beau Sandland as well.

Nebraska does not currently have any openings on its assistant coaching staff.

Long nets second-team All-American honors

Nebraska offensive guard Spencer Long received second-team All-American honors Tuesday from the Associated Press.

Long, a junior, started all 13 games this year and won first-team All-Big Ten for the second year in a row.

The last NU offensive lineman to win first-team All-American honors was Husker guard Toniu Fonoti in 2001.

NU's bowl ticket sales lag behind last year's

A Nebraska ticket official said Tuesday that the Huskers had sold just over 3,800 tickets out of its 12,500 allotment for the 2013 Capital One Bowl.

Last year, NU sold just over 6,500 tickets to the same bowl game.

A Georgia ticket official said the Bulldogs had sold more than 10,000 tickets so far. Orlando is a six-hour drive from Atlanta, Georgia's largest city.
