Papio South leads Class A selections

Five players from the All-Nebraska team highlight the All-Class A first team.

That quintet consists of Kadie and Amber Rolfzen and Kelly Hunter of Papillion-La Vista South, Lexi Elman of Omaha Marian and Sydney Townsend of Lincoln Pius X. The other two Class A first-teamers are Marian's Maggie Heim and Lincoln Southeast's Kinslie TeKolste.

Heim, an Ohio State recruit, had 643 assists for the 38-5 Crusaders. She also had 287 kills, 61 aces and 36 blocks.

TeKolste, a 6-foot-1 senior, was Southeast's top hitter. She had 405 kills and 325 digs for the Knights, who reached the state tournament for the first time since 2002.

Class B

Nebraska recruit Olivia Boender is the honorary captain of the Class B first-team squad. Other members are McKenzie Brown and Katie Placke of Grand Island Northwest, Taylor Thiele of Aurora, Jessica Bird of Bennington, Chandelle Davidson of Gretna and Michelle Thommi of Omaha Skutt.

Boender had 530 kills for Waverly while Brown (259 kills) and Placke (224 kills) were key members of the state champion Vikings. Thiele had 423 kills for the Huskies, Bird pounded 254 kills for Bennington, Davidson dished out 931 assists for the Dragons and Thommi, the SkyHawks libero, helped Skutt get within one win of the state tournament.

Class C-1

Four players from state champion Kearney Catholic, including All-Nebraska first-teamer Michaela Mestl, make the Class C-1 first team. Other Stars on the first team are outside hitter Bailey Sokolowski (300 kills), setter Shayla Conner (903 assists) and libero Morgan Stute (343 digs, 91 aces).

The other three first-teamers are Michaela Barry of Norfolk Catholic, Mikaela Shaw of Sandy Creek and Payton Chohon of Columbus Scotus. Barry had 280 kills and 359 digs, Shaw had 436 kills and 359 digs while Chohon had 293 kills and 253 digs for the state runner-up Shamrocks.

Class C-2

Alexis Steffen of state champion Hartington Cedar Catholic is the honorary captain of the Class C-2 first team. Other selections are Morgan Sunderman and Megan Gebhardt of Norfolk Lutheran, Brittany Lawrence of North Platte St. Pat's, Bridgette Baden of Thayer Central, Morgan Nikkila of Hastings St. Cecilia and Hanna Justesen of Elmwood-Murdock.

Steffen led the Trojans with 309 kills while Sunderman (314 kills) and Gebhardt (551 assists, 180 kills) helped the state runner-up Eagles finish 30-6. Lawrence had 359 kills for the Lady Irish, Baden pounded 418 kills for the Titans, Nikkila finished with 332 kills for the Hawkettes and Justesen — only a sophomore — led the Knights with 548 kills.

Class D-1

KC Heimann of Howells-Dodge is the honorary captain of the Class D-1 first team. She is joined on the first team by Jackie Luzum and Taylor Erdkamp of Exeter-Milligan, Samantha Kennedy of Sutherland, Abby Ortmeier of West Point Guardian Angels Central Catholic, Anna Grovijohn of Howells-Dodge and Makaleigh Yantzie of BDS.

Heimann had 444 kills for the Jaguars while Luzum (347 kills) and Erdkamp (819 assists) were key performers for the state champion Timberwolves. Kennedy belted 442 kills, Ortmeier had 308 kills, Grovijohn had 491 digs and Yantzie had 311 kills.

Class D-2

All-Nebraska outside hitter Alyssa Frauendorfer of Humphrey is the honorary captain of the Class D-2 squad. She is joined on the first team by Skyler Erickson of Cedar Valley, Kalynn Dahlke of Hampton, Abbey Preissler of Giltner, Jordan Lempka of Sterling, Riley Funk of Ewing and Ellie Geyer of Humphrey.

Erickson pounded 438 kills for the state runner-up Mavericks, Dahlke had 342 kills for the Hawks and Preissler had 353 kills for the Hornets. Lempka finished with 340 kills for the Jets, Funk had 430 kills for the Tigers and Geyer dished out 915 assists for the state champion Bulldogs.
