HOOVER, Ala. — Creighton standout senior Jose Gomez was named a finalist for the 2012 Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy on Thursday, and the midfielder from Santa Ana, Calif., also was named the TopDrawerSoccer.com player of the year for upperclassmen.
The Hermann Trophy is the highest individual honor in college soccer. The other finalists are Notre Dame senior forward Ryan Finley and Maryland junior forward Patrick Mullins.
The winner will be announced at the Hermann Trophy banquet on Jan. 11 in St. Louis.
Gomez's selection marks the second consecutive season that a Creighton player has made the final three. In 2011, Ethan Finlay was the Hermann Trophy runner-up. The only other Creighton player to be named a finalist for the award was current Creighton assistant coach Johnny Torres, who won it in 1997.
