A former Plattsmouth, Neb., convenience store manager was sentenced to four to six years in prison Monday for stealing more than $250,000 from his employer.
Michael P. Flaherty, 56, of Plattsmouth pleaded guilty last month in Cass County District Court to felony theft of $264,000 from Lucky’s convenience store over four years. Cass County Attorney Nathan Cox said Flaherty admitted that he took money by falsifying records, although he claimed the total should have been about $150,000.
Cox said the theft was a “very calculating process” and there has been no accounting of where the money went. No repayment has been made despite a civil case ruling in the owners’ favor, which shows “disregard for the victim,” Cox said.
Defense attorney Mike Ziskey said there is no “pot of money” or property that Flaherty can draw on to make restitution.
Flaherty will be eligible for parole in two years under state sentencing guidelines.
