A former Creighton University defensive basketball star, who has had a succession of legal troubles since his playing days in the mid-1970s, has again been arrested.
John C. Johnson, 55, was driving a vehicle near 171st Street and West Center Road when he was stopped by police about 1:15 a.m. Thursday. He was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol content higher than .15 percent with four prior convictions of that charge, Omaha police said.
Johnson has several convictions for theft and other financial crimes. He said in a 2003 interview with The World-Herald that he frequently stole property from vehicles he broke into, and he acknowledged that he used cocaine.
Johnson was inducted into Creighton's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991.
