Moore, Hooper key Huskers' rally past USC

LOS ANGELES — Point guard Lindsey Moore put No. 23 Nebraska on her back Friday, scoring 17 points in the final 6:06 to lead the Huskers to a 74-65 win against Southern California.

Moore, a senior from Covington, Wash., had 23 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.

In a game of spurts, Nebraska trailed 33-29 at halftime. After falling behind 40-33 early in the second half, the Huskers went on a 17-2 run capped by Jordan Hooper’s three-point play with 13:24 left. The Trojans responded by scoring 15 straight points. Ariya Crook finished the run with a 3-pointer at the 7:02 mark. The USC sophomore finished with 25 points but scored none after her run-ending basket that gave the Trojans a 57-52 advantage.

That’s when Moore and her teammates went on their game-winning run.

Moore scored 17 of the Huskers’ last 22 points, but it was sophomore Tear’a Laudermill who gave Nebraska the lead for good. The guard out of Riverside, Calif., hit a 3-pointer with one second on the shot clock to put her team up 64-63.

On the ensuing possession, freshman Rachel Theriot stole the ball and advanced it to Emily Cady, who put Nebraska up 66-63 with 1:24 left.

Moore scored the final eight points, including six from the foul line. The senior led her team’s 28-of-32 effort on foul shots by making 13 of 15. The Trojans were 10 of 16 on the day.

Hooper added 19 points and Cady 14 as the Huskers shot 22 of 51 from the field.

USC hit five more 3-pointers and outrebounded Nebraska 34-31 but was unable to make up the 18-point difference at the foul line. With the win, the Huskers moved to 4-3 all-time against the Trojans.

Nebraska returns home Wednesday to take on future Big Ten opponent Maryland. The Big Ten/ACC Challenge matchup is set to tip off at 7 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
