Omaha school board members have the résumé of the district's next leader in their possession.
Monday afternoon, the board received a list of 68 candidates from Gary Solomon of Proact Search, the firm the board has contracted with to find a new leader for the Omaha Public Schools. Proact already eliminated 21 candidates from the 89 who applied.
The board went into closed session Monday to discuss the candidates.
By next week, the search firm will have pared the list to six semifinalists. The board will interview those candidates Nov. 27 and 28 in closed session.
The board plans to cut the list to three finalists at a meeting Nov. 30 but not release the names until Dec. 7.
The finalists will be interviewed Dec. 11, 12 and 13, and OPS plans to announce a new superintendent Dec. 17.
Former OPS Superintendent John Mackiel retired in August after 15 years in the district's top spot. Former Ralston Superintendent Virginia Moon is serving in the interim.
Monday's presentation began the final stages of the board's second superintendent search this year.
In April, the board hired former Des Moines Superintendent Nancy Sebring. But she resigned from the Omaha job in June after sexually explicit emails sent to and from her work account became public.
