World-Herald staff writers Sam McKewon and Jon Nyatawa break down Nebraska's 38-14 win over Minnesota with quarter-by-quarter highlights.
* * *
Tim Beck: Nebraska's offensive coordinator starts the game by attacking Minnesota's perimeter with toss plays and bubble screens as the Huskers move easily into Gophers' territory.
Brett Maher: On Senior Day, NU's senior kicker slides a 39-yard field goal just inside the left upright for a 3-0 lead.
Will Compton: Nebraska's senior middle linebacker stuffs Minnesota running back Donnell Kirkwood for no gain on third-and-1. The Gophers punt.
Jamal Turner: Nebraska's sophomore wide receiver catches a swing pass from quarterback Taylor Martinez and jets forward for a 22-yard gain.
Martinez: Starts the game completing his first six passes. His sixth pass goes for a 36-yard touchdown to Kenny Bell, who's running a post route.
Philip Nelson: The quarterback completes passes of 17 and 12 yards to move Minnesota into Nebraska territory, but he misses three straight passes near midfield, and the Gophers end the quarter punting the ball to the Huskers.
Imani Cross: The I-back converts another short-yardage third-down play into a first down, keeping Nebraska's drive alive.
Martinez: By escaping two Minnesota pass rushers, he's able to get off a pass that eventually triggers a pass interference penalty on the Gophers. NU's drive dies at the UM 44, however.
Ciante Evans and Josh Mitchell: Both Husker corners notch pass breakups on Nebraska's ensuing drive to force another Minnesota punt.
Bell: Makes a terrific, diving catch for a 29-yard gain to set up Nebraska with a first-and-goal at Minnesota's 3-yard line.
Cross: Rumbles the final 3 yards for a touchdown and a 17-0 lead.
Christian Eldred: Minnesota's punter boots a ball into a strong south wind, which turns the ball back toward Eldred, who must down his own punt. For all of 7 yards.
Quincy Enunwa: On third-and-7, the NU receiver gets open down the sideline and twice bobbles a perfectly thrown Martinez pass before hauling it in for a 29-yard gain and another first-and-goal.

Cross: Leaps into the end zone to give Nebraska a 24-0 lead. The Huskers are cruising.
Evans: Sacks Nelson for a 10-yard loss.
Martinez: Executes a sharp two-minute drive, completing six passes to reach Minnesota's 1-yard line with two seconds left. Coach Bo Pelini opts to go for the touchdown, but Cross comes up a foot short.
Andrew Green: Gets another pass breakup for the Huskers, whose secondary has been aggressive.
Martinez: Completes a 27-yard laser to Jamal Turner, moving Nebraska into Minnesota territory.
Ameer Abdullah: The Husker running back has been dependable for weeks, but he coughs up a fumble that the Gophers recover.
Daimion Stafford: The NU safety gets a most fortuitous gift on Senior Day, as Minnesota wide receiver Andre McDonald drops a deep pass from Nelson and bumps the ball with his knee right to Stafford.
Martinez: Hits Enunwa for a 21-yard gain to move the Huskers near midfield.
Abdullah: Busts open a 23-yard run to cross the 1,000-yard plateau for the year. It's the 32nd 1,000-yard rushing season in Husker history.
Bell: Catches a quick hitch pass from Martinez and turns on the jets down the sideline, running 30 yards for a touchdown. NU leads 31-0.
Courtney Osborne: On the Gophers' ensuing drive, the Husker senior safety makes a nice pass breakup.
Stanley Jean-Baptiste: Intercepts a ricochet pass off of a Gopher drop and returns it 48 yards for a touchdown and a 38-0 lead. That's how the third quarter ends.
Briean Boddy: The Minnesota defensive back closes on NU receiver Sam Burtch and dislodges the football from the walk-on's hands for a third-down pass breakup, forcing a punt.
McDonald: This time, the freshman receiver hauls in a long ball downfield. His 26-yard catch puts Minnesota inside the red zone.
MarQueis Gray: Back in his old position, Gray takes the direct snap and finds his way into the end zone for Minnesota's first points of the day. The quarterback-turned-receiver makes it 38-7 with 7:39 left.
Ron Kellogg: Nebraska's backup quarterback recovers a fumbled snap in the backfield and uses a few nifty moves to escape trouble and actually gain 2 yards on the play.
Alex Keith: Another fumble by the Huskers. This one's on a handoff exchange. Minnesota's freshman defensive end is in the right place at the right time, falling on the loose ball.
Gray: Maybe he should have played more quarterback Saturday. The senior glides into the end zone from 6 yards out for another meaningless score. It's 38-14 with 2:51 left.
