Tyler Hynes and Luca Frigo each registered a goal and an assist Saturday evening as the Omaha Lancers outlasted the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders 3-1 in front of 3,059 fans at the Ralston Arena.
With the win, Omaha improved to 6-9 on the year and moved into sixth place in the Western Conference with 12 standings points.
Omaha grabbed the game’s opening goal a little over six minutes into the game when Kyle Osterberg sent in his second goal of the season. Frigo and Ben Ostlie assisted on the even strength strike.
Cedar Rapids evened the contest midway through the second period when, fresh off a successful penalty kill, Gavin Bayreuther stepped out of the penalty box and set up Clark Kuster at the left point and drove in his first career USHL goal. Dylan Steman earned the secondary assist.
The Lancers regained the lead for good at 10:07 into the third period when Hynes centered a pass through the goal crease that was backhanded in by Frigo for his third goal of the year and first game-winner of the season.
Hynes added an insurance goal in the final minute, driving his second goal of the season into an empty net.
Omaha goaltender Alex Lyon earned the victory, making 20 saves on the night. Lyon moved to 5-8 on the year, while Chris Birdsall suffered the loss for Cedar Rapids.
