An Omaha Public Schools teacher has been charged with witness tampering and child abuse after being accused of covering up her daughter's allegations that her older brother had molested her.
The woman's husband, an Omaha police officer, also was charged last week in the nearby county where they live.
Authorities say both knew of the possible incest. The daughter, now a teenager, reported that it dated back to when she was 3 and her brother, now an adult, was 8.
Earlier this year, authorities say, the teacher intentionally interfered with a police investigation by encouraging her son to lie about what had happened.
The teacher was charged with three felonies: witness tampering, child abuse and being an accessory to a felony.
She is no longer working in the OPS elementary school at which she was employed, said district spokesman David Patton. The district is awaiting the outcome of the investigation.
The teacher is not being named because it would violate The World-Herald's policy against revealing the names of victims of sex crimes.
