Meet the team: Maverick men's basketball

World-Herald staff writer Rob White breaks down the UNO men's basketball roster.

CJ Carter
6-0 sophomore guard
Averaged 10.4 points and team-best 1.2 steals as freshman. The athletic player from Omaha Benson could spend more time at point guard this season.

Koang Duluony
6-8 senior forward
Former Omaha Bryan star spent four years (one as redshirt) at Indiana State, averaging 4.3 points as reserve. A long wing who could play power forward.

John Karhoff
6-8 junior center
Set for third year as starter after averaging 12.9 points and 4.5 rebounds. He's a clever passer and accomplished shooter who added mass (up to 235 pounds).

Alex Welhouse
6-7 senior forward
Wisconsin native that can take power forwards out of their comfort zone with his long-range shooting. Made 50 3s while averaging 10.4 points and 6.7 rebounds last year.

Jalen Bradley
6-0 freshman guard
Two-time all-state player at Norfolk, Neb., is fifth in Class A history with 1,638 career points and was a state-record 93.4 percent free-throw shooter.

Jacques Coleman
5-11 senior guard
Junior college transfer from Milwaukee was backup point last year in limited role. Has made an impression with his offseason improvement.

Tyler Egli
6-4 senior guard
Ankeny, Iowa, product who started his career at Division II North Carolina-Pembroke and is in third season at UNO. Returned to walk-on status, he's still an excellent shooter.

Matt Hagerbaumer
6-7 junior forward
An athletic player who was a recruiting find in the middle of an injury-plagued career at Lincoln Southeast. Grabbed 4.5 rebounds last year, and added bulk (now 230 pounds).

Simon Krych
6-8 freshman forward
Redshirted last season after signing in summer, he scored 1,235 career points during prep career in St. Cloud, Minn. Bulked up to 225 pounds.

Alex Phillips
6-3 junior guard
A summer sign, the Alabama native is a power wing who averaged 10.3 points per game at New Mexico JC. He was slowed by a concussion in preseason.

Mike Rostampour
6-8 junior forward
After averaging 7.8 points and 4.7 rebounds for St. Cloud State's NCAA Division II Tournament team, the 215-pounder walked-on at UNO and will sit out the season.

Justin Simmons
6-3 junior guard
Effectively playing only his third season of organized basketball, the highly-athletic Milwaukee native averaged 16.8 points last season for Butler (Kan.) CC.

Caleb Steffensmeier
6-1 junior guard
Long-armed point guard who was third in Division I with 3.4 assist-to-turnover ratio while averaging 5.3 points and 3.5 assists. He's a former Prep teammate of Karhoff.

Marcus Tyus
6-1 freshman guard
As an explosive scorer at Minneapolis-area Anoka High, he averaged 21 points per game as a junior and 27 as a senior. A solid recruiting get who signed early with UNO.
