Catholic Health Initiatives became the sole sponsor Thursday of Alegent Creighton Health.
Immanuel, a Lutheran-affiliated organization, had shared sponsorship of the Alegent system since 1996 but will now focus on senior care. Immanuel Medical Center in north-central Omaha will continue to be an Alegent Creighton hospital.
Alegent Creighton owns 10 area hospitals and is part-owner of Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, Neb.
Richard Hachten, president and CEO of Alegent Creighton, will assume the additional role of senior vice president of operations for CHI.
CHI, headquartered in Englewood, Colo., oversees 76 hospitals and other health and residential facilities in 19 states.
As sole sponsor, CHI will make sure that facilities abide by the laws and regulations of the Roman Catholic Church. In a general sense, CHI operates and owns the facilities it sponsors.
