Minneapolis — Creighton senior Billy Paluch started play at the ITA’s Central Regional championships with wins in singles and doubles play Friday.
In the singles main draw, Paluch knocked off Arthur Romanet of Bradley 7-5, 6-0. Paluch will face No. 8 seed Matheus Pereira of Wichita State in the second round Saturday.
In doubles action, Paluch teamed with fellow senior Ryan Norman to beat Patrick Hammers and Bradley Holt of Western Illinois 8-1 in a first-round match. Later in the day, Norman and Paluch fell to Badr Cherradi and Johnny Rigby of Southern Illinois 8-4 in the second round.
Norman dropped his first-round singles match to Minnesota’s Mathieu Froment 6-0, 6-1. He’ll take on Nebraska’s Eric Sock in a first-round consolation match Saturday.
