UPDATE: The suspect, Sergio Valdivia-Marquez, was out of the hospital Sunday and arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence, reckless driving and of two unrelated misdemeanor warrants. The victim remained in critical condition Sunday evening.
*** An 18-year-old man was critically injured Saturday when a vehicle sped through a red light at 72nd and Grover Streets and struck his car, Omaha police said.
Michael Tran was eastbound on Grover Street about 12:10 a.m. when his Mitsubishi Eclipse was hit by a Honda Civic traveling south on 72nd Street at a high rate of speed, police said.
Tran was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said. He was listed in critical condition.
The Honda driver, Sergio Valdivia-Marquez, 21, of Omaha was taken to the hospital with leg injuries.
The force of the impact pushed Tran's Eclipse into a third vehicle that was waiting at the red light in the northbound lane of 72nd Street.
That driver, Adam C. Block, 22, of Omaha was not hurt, police said.
