Final plans are under way for Clarkson Service League’s annual “Santa’s Preview.” The holiday shopping event will be held Nov. 1 and 2 at the Nebraska Medical Center, Clarkson Tower in the Storz Pavilion, 43rd Street and Dewey Avenue.
Shopping will start Nov. 1 at 7 a.m. and continue to 4 p.m.
There will be a cocktail reception along with shopping that evening. Guests attending the cocktail party will receive a 25 percent discount off one item. Event chairwomen are Beth Asbjornson McCashland, Kim Banat and Sally Stalnaker.
Tickets for the reception are $75.
Shopping will continue on Nov. 2 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Valet parking will be available both days.
Gift Shop chairwomen are Mary Derr, Carmen Jensen, Lynne Holdenried, Marianne Holland, Kara Bachman and Patty Landen.
General chairwomen are Jeanie Jones and Jennifer Zatechka. Clarkson Service League president is Karen Nelsen.
Proceeds from the event will go toward the $500,000 Clarkson Service League pledge to the James A. Canedy Scholar Program.

Children living in Pottawattamie County — birth to age 5 — will be the beneficiaries of Lutheran Family Services’ Wicker & Wine Basket Auction on Nov. 1 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs.
Matt and Lisa Gronstal are honorary chairmen of the 2012 event. The evening will feature both live and silent auctions, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, as well as a program showcasing the work of the Pottawattamie County Center for Healthy Families, which serves more than 500 preschool children, babies, pregnant women and their families every year.
The center’s mission is providing early intervention and prevention programs to reduce the risk of child abuse and neglect.

St. Cecilia School held its first Roger Higgins Memorial Golf Classic on Sept. 8 at Shoreline Golf Club. Higgins was a coach, teacher and administrator at the former Cathedral High School.
The tournament drew 142 golfers and raised more than $17,000. Following the tourney, a lunch featured special guest speaker Greg McDermott, Creighton University basketball coach.
All proceeds will go toward St. Cecilia School and the athletic department. The golf classic will become an annual event.

Doctors’ Wives of Omaha held its first meeting of the season Oct. 1 at the home of Ann Rose. Trudy Bredthauer served as co-hostess.
Officers for 2012-2013 are Kathy Wilson, president; Tamara Giitter, vice president; Kirsten Hosman, secretary; and Cheryl Holmberg, treasurer.
The next meeting will be held on Nov. 5 at Lauritzen Gardens. Chelsea Taxman of Truck Farm Omaha will be the guest speaker.
