A teenager who had been arrested for bringing a handgun to his high school is Omaha's latest homicide victim.
Brandin H. Princole, 17, was shot a few blocks from his home about 2:40 p.m. Friday near 45th Street and Larimore Avenue. He was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center, where he died.
Princole is the city's 30th homicide victim of the year and the eighth Omaha teenager violently killed in 2012.
Police had not announced any arrests in connection with his death.
Princole was arrested in September for bringing a handgun to Burke High School. School administrators told police that on Sept. 17, Princole was recorded on school bus security video moving a handgun from his pocket or waistband to his bookbag.
The next day, police went to his house and found a silver Taurus PT .25-caliber handgun in his bedroom closet, according to a police report.
Princole was charged Sept. 20 with possession of a firearm on school grounds, a felony.
According to court documents, his bail was set at $5,000. He was released from jail when 10 percent of his bail was paid Sept. 27.
A prayer walk against violence in the community will begin at 2:30 p.m. today at 45th Street and Larimore Avenue.
