COUNCIL BLUFFS — The state's hottest bachelor is a local.
Cosmopolitan magazine has named Council Bluffs native Nick McCoy, 25, as Iowa's most eligible bachelor for 2012.
Twenty-year-old Dexter Robertson of Ogallala received the Nebraska title.
The November issue of the monthly magazine salutes its picks for the hottest bachelors across the country. Among this year's group are McCoy, a design engineer at Modern Equipment Co., and Robertson, a student.
“I want to stay humble about it ... but the attention has been fun,” McCoy said.
McCoy and Robertson are in the running for Bachelor of the Year. Readers can check out the two online and vote once from now until Oct. 18.
A panel of Cosmo editors will choose the Bachelor of the Year out of the top 10 bachelors with the most reader votes, and he will receive $10,000.
McCoy was flown to New York City for the November issue. The trip included a photo shoot in the Hamptons. He'll be back in New York for the Bachelor of the Year announcement, a two-day trip this month that will include a stop on the “Today” show on Oct. 18 with the rest of the nominees.
From cliff jumping to sports, McCoy has a taste for adventure.
“I recently stepped way out of my comfort zone,” McCoy said, “and went sky diving for the first time. The rush was truly an amazing experience, but deeply meaningful, too. The sky diving event was to honor a friend's brother who died in combat as a member of SEAL Team 6. It was so very special to be able to honor him by experiencing the sky diving that he so loved.”
McCoy has also been a mentor, coach and Big Brother to youths through the United Way Big Brothers program, as well as a youth soccer coach.
McCoy, a 2011 University of Iowa graduate, has degrees in accounting and engineering.
Robertson's mother nominated him, saying, "Dexter is a gentleman with a positive outlook. He's any girl's dream come true."
He said that If he's into a girl, "I'll make her laugh, tell her she's pretty and send her texts."
He's vulnerable, thought. "Having my feelings hurt" is his biggest relationship fear.
