LINCOLN (AP) — A former Nebraska football team captain has pleaded not guilty to selling a pound of marijuana.
Vershan Jackson, 38, entered his plea in writing earlier this week. The former tight end, who was one of the leaders of the 1997 team, is free on bond.
Lincoln police said an officer watched 31-year-old Presha Allen approach Jackson's Lexus sport utility vehicle in a grocery store parking lot.
Police said Allen entered the car without anything in his hands, but a short time later Allen had a pound of marijuana sitting at his feet when officers approached.
Allen is facing a similar charge and is free on bail, but he has not entered a formal plea yet.
