The University of Nebraska at Omaha women hung with defending Summit League tournament champ Oakland on Sunday, but an early goal against the backup keeper proved to be the difference in the Mavericks’ 1-0 loss at UNO Soccer Field.
The Golden Grizzlies scored in the 16th minute, two minutes after UNO starting keeper Meaghan Clark left with an injury. Though UNO controlled play much of the second half, finishing with a 5-4 advantage in shots after the break, the Mavs failed to earn the tying goal.
UNO hits the road next weekend for games at South Dakota and Kansas City on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Coach Don Klosterman needs one win to reach the 200 milestone.
