A Haunted Safari with your family
Go on a haunted hike, take a spooky ride, enjoy supper, roast marshmallows and participate in ghostly games from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 12-13 during Haunted Safari.
It’s a safe and fun family Halloween event at Wildlife Safari Park near Ashland, Neb. Wear your costume and dress for outdoor activity. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Reservations are required. Tickets are $15 per person for members of Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium and $20 for nonmembers. Children age 2 and younger are free. You’ll see double at this convention
Registration is due by Oct. 10 for the Nebraska State Twins Association’s annual convention. It will be Oct. 20-21 at the Howard Johnson River Side Inn, 333 Ramada Road in Grand Island.
The convention is for sets of twins or multiple births of all ages. At least one twin or multiple must be a Nebraska resident.

Danger Dolls dancers to have auditions
The Danger Dolls Dance Team, the official dance team of the Nebraska Danger Indoor Professional Football Team of Grand Island, Neb., will have auditions for the 2013 squad.
Preliminaries will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon Oct. 13 at Smitty’s Performing Arts Center in Grand Island. Finals, which are open to the public, will run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 14 at Conestoga Mall in Grand Island.
You must be 16 or older to audition and must prepare a 30-second solo of any style for preliminaries and finals. The music must be family friendly.

Annual fiddling bee to be in Avoca, Neb.
The 16th annual Schoolhouse Fiddling Bee will begin at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 14 in the Old Avoca (Neb.) Schoolhouse. For rules and registration, visit greenblattandseay.com.
Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students and $1 for children. Fiddlers and their backups are admitted free. The contest will be followed by an acoustic jam session.

Old-time country featured at this event
The Old-Time Rural Music Gathering will be Friday through Oct. 7 at Christensen Fieldhouse in Fremont, Neb. Country music in its earlier forms is featured.
Performers will come from across the nation. The first night will bring Friday Night Opry. The next days will bring the country dance and the Sunday Gospel Show. There also are contests.
Admission is $15 for an adult daily ticket or a three-day pass for $35. Persons younger than 18 are admitted free. Organizers recommend you bring lawn chairs because seating is limited.
