Family members said an Omaha man was visiting friends when he was shot and killed earlier this month.
Anthony L. Saunsoci, 30, was the city’s 29th homicide of the year. Police said they continue to investigate his death.
Saunsoci was killed at a home hear 41st and Ohio Streets about 2:30 a.m. Sept. 15. Also injured in the gunfire was his close friend Antwon Murry, 30, and Eva Carter, 28.
Marlene Saunsoci said she believes her nephew was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“There was no reason for anyone to be after Anthony. He didn’t cause trouble or bother people,” she said.
Anthony Saunsoci spent his time working at a Little King sandwich shop or with his family, she said.
Saunsoci loved his family and spending holidays with them.
He had a large extended family in Omaha as well as a 9-year-old son, and he leaves behind his girlfriend, Janine Cole, and her three children, Kiara, Khila and Jon.
Cole said of Saunsoci: “He was very sweet, with a very big heart.”
He enjoyed Husker football and grilling food at family events, even in cold weather.
“I miss his presence, knowing he could stop by anytime with his smile and laugh,” Marlene Saunsoci said.
Saunsoci is survived by his son, Anthony Saunsoci Jr.; father Dwayne Saunsoci; brothers Adonis, Andre and Adam Saunsoci; grandfather Robert Saunsoci; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
