CHADRON — Mikka Salazar totaled three hits and drove in four runs in the Scottsbluff softball team’s 11-1 win over Chadron on Tuesday night in Chadron.
Salazar, a junior, went 3-for-4 in the contest. Two of her three hits were doubles.
“Mikka had a good game at the plate,” Scottsbluff coach Kendall Vogel said. “She was really hitting the ball well for us tonight.”
The Bearcats scored their 11 runs on nine hits.
Joining Salazar in the double-digit hit column for Scottsbluff was Betsy Holscher, who went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.
Also for the Bearcats offensively, Kelsey Albright had a double and drove in two runs.
Leading just 2-0 through two innings of play, Scottsbluff shifted into a higher gear by scoring three runs in the third, four more in the fourth and two in the fifth to end the game early via the run rule.
“We started out a little slow, but then we got going,” Vogel said. “The girls were focused. We had a lot of hard hits and the defense played pretty well.”
Brianna Fliam earned her 13th win of the season in the circle for the Bearcats. The senior hurler struck out five, scattered four hits and walked just one.
Jessica Jersild plated Chadron’s lone run in the bottom of the third. Jersild scored on a single off the bat of Mikki Hastings.
Scottsbluff, which improved to 14-13 on the season with the win, will host the Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday. The Bearcats will open the eight-team tournament at 10 a.m. against Norfolk at Lacy Park. Tournament games will be held at the high school and Lacy Park at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.
“We need to step it up and play better on Saturday,” Vogel said. “Hopefully, we’ll get some good practices in this week and be ready. Whoever we play is going to be solid.”
Chadron will close out its regular season on Saturday against Alliance.
