An Omaha real estate agent was killed when she lost control of her SUV on Interstate 680 during the morning rush hour.
Virginia A. Tardy, 57, was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center following the crash at 8 a.m. Tuesday. She died later in the morning.
Tardy was driving a Ford Edge south in the far right lane of I-680 when a Honda Accord in front of her slowed because of traffic exiting onto Dodge Street, police said.
Tardy tried to avoid hitting the Accord, driven by Katie Liquori, 28, of Omaha. But the SUV swerved to the right, colliding with the rear passenger side of the Accord.
The SUV careened out of control onto the shoulder and rolled, police said. Tardy was ejected from the vehicle.
Liquori suffered serious injuries that were not life-threatening. She was being treated at Methodist Hospital.
Police said criminal charges were unlikely.
Tardy, who worked for Prudential Ambassador, came to Omaha in 1988.
She was active in St. Cecilia Parish, where she and her husband, Jim Tardy, led an adult education program about the Catholic faith.
Tardy formerly worked in new home sales for HearthStone Homes, then switched to existing homes in the Dundee and Country Club neighborhoods, according to her Prudential website. She graduated from high school and college in Durango, Colo.
