First woman to conquer 'Stellanator' knocks off another challenge
By Sarah Baker Hansen / World-Herald staff writer

Molly Schuyler is making a run to be the city's next food challenge star.

In August, she became the first woman to successfully finish the Stellanator, the burger challenge at Stella's Bar and Grill in Bellevue. She finished in near-record time, just 15 minutes.

And on Monday, she took down a second Bellevue burger challenge: Sinful Burger's "Goliath" Challenge: five pounds of food that includes two one and a half pound burgers topped with ten slices of cheese, lettuce, tomato and onions, all sandwiched between two large pieces of Indian fry bread and a one-pound side of fries.

She's the first woman to finish this one, too, and she's also the new record holder: she finished in 17 minutes and three seconds. A professional eater — the former record holder and the only person with a faster time than Schuyler has in the Stellanator challenge — finished the Goliath in 18 minutes.

For the uninitiated, the Stellanator sandwich includes six hamburger patties, six eggs, six pieces of cheese and six pieces of bacon topped with fried onions, jalapenos, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, two buns, mayonnaise and nearly a jar of peanut butter. Contenders have to take down the sandwich and a pound of fries in 45 minutes. Challengers have to finish the Goliath in an hour.

After completing her second challenge, Schuyler sent an excited Facebook message:

"Totally took down the Goliath Challenge!" she wrote. "Unfortunately my husband couldn't finish his. He got about one fourth of the way in."

Next on her list is the Pig Wings challenge at Starsky's, where contenders have to eat five pounds of "pig wings" — like chicken wings, but pork — and 3 pounds of corn nuggets in one hour. The challenge was featured on the Travel Channel's "Man vs. Food Nation."

"I think that one is going to hurt," she said. "I'm going to wait a while. Pretty full."

Movie review: 'Transcendence' ends up quite ordinary

“Transcendence,” a sci-fi thriller about an attempt to meld the human mind with technology, falls far short of transcendence. So far short I had to fight off sleep.
