The World-Herald asked Nebraska's two U.S. Senate candidates to address several issues of importance in the 2012 campaign. This is one in a series of topics and responses.
Tax rates and economic growth
Deb Fischer: “In this economy, we shouldn't raise taxes on anyone. We need to reform our tax code and make it more competitive. I support tax relief for the middle class to spur economic growth. I also favor reducing the business tax to a rate of 24 percent, while also eliminating the loopholes that have allowed some corporations to avoid paying any taxes.”
Bob Kerrey: “I am promising to shake things up in Washington, including saying no to lawyer-lobbyists promising PAC checks for tax breaks. I will fight to eliminate as many tax breaks as possible in order to lower overall rates and simplify the tax code, and even reduce the size of the IRS.”
