ELWOOD, Neb. (AP) — An 11-year-old boy kept his cool so he could drive a pickup truck and call for help for his injured father in a south-central Nebraska pasture.
Kendall Smith, 51, was driving an ATV on Wednesday while tending cattle in the Frontier County pasture. His son, Ty, was in a pickup nearby.
Smith’s wife and Ty’s mother, Michelle, said that Smith crashed in a ravine and suffered a broken leg. He texted Ty, who checked with his father, then drove the pickup to higher ground so he could use his cellphone to call for help.
Elwood Rescue paramedics took Smith to a hospital.
