There has been confusion in the aftermath of Election Commissioner Dave Phipps’s decision to reduce the number of precincts and polling places in Douglas County.
Though it originally was thought that nearly half of Douglas County’s 2010 polling sites closed, Phipps now says it was closer to one-third.
The confusion may be that some polling places are used for more than one precinct.
Of the county’s 354 precincts, he closed 169 — nearly half.
But he closed a smaller percentage of polling places.
Of 265 polling places in 2010, he closed 85 and left 180 open.
