Pea-size and larger hail piled up like snow in Norfolk on Saturday. Here's the aftermath:
>> Hail formed drifts, then intense rains washed the drifts down streets. Water rose to the doors of cars in some parts of Norfolk.
>> Snowplows cleared hail from streets and people shoveled sidewalks and driveways.
>> There were reports of damaged roofs and siding.
>> Video of the weird scene went viral.
>> Water seeped underneath the outside doors to the emergency department at Faith Regional Health Services. As a result of the hail and mud, a drain clogged, causing about 10 feet of water to build up in a stairwell leading into the emergency department, according to the hospital. The pressure became so great behind the metal door in the stairwell that the door bent and gave way. Water, mud and hail about four feet high poured in and covered every corridor and room in the department, along with many hallways and rooms in adjacent departments. The emergency department has been temporarily relocated to another part of the hospital.
