COUNCIL BLUFFS — Don't expect the recent Air Force manpower-restructuring plan — which would eliminate nearly 500 Air National Guard positions in Des Moines — to be the last say, according to Iowa Sen. Charles Grassley.
He and other senators plan to continue seeking reasons for this plan from Defense Department officials, Grassley said Wednesday during his weekly telephone press conference.
They're not alone, he added. Nearly all U.S. governors also have signed letters stating their disapproval, Grassley said.
"They're joining forces with us to say that this is unfair," he said.
If adequate reasons for the cuts aren't forthcoming, Grassley said, "we'll have to seek congressional remedies."
