As gas prices soar, the Omaha City Council is asking people to ride the bus.
The council approved a resolution Tuesday urging people to ride Metro to work in March and urging businesses and community leaders to encourage greater bus ridership.
Next Tuesday, all seven council members plan to ride the bus downtown for the day's committee meetings and the afternoon City Council meeting.
Councilman Chris Jerram, who sponsored the resolution, said in a statement that public transportation is inexpensive and convenient, saves wear and tear on cars, and reduces traffic congestion and air pollution.
