Maybe it was frustration over the French Café's demise, or maybe someone had a $100 gift card rendered useless by the Old Market restaurant's unexpected closing after Sunday's dinner service. Either way, someone shattered the glass overnight in the iconic Old Market establishment's front door.
Police said Tuesday morning that they had no reports of vandalism at 1013 Howard St.
"It probably happened last night," said a worker at Overland Sheepskin Co., which is just to the east of the cafe. "We just got here and we didn't see anything."
An employee at the business just to the west, Goldsmith Silversmith, also knew nothing about the vandalism. But, she said, the restaurant's closing could impact the Old Market.
"I'm sure it doesn't have a great affect on us," she said, "but you'll always have people who like to eat and then shop after dining."
