Sexual medicine sure isn't what it used to be.
That's not such a bad thing, according to certified sex therapist Lindsay Novak, who blogs for livewellnebraska.com. What was once common practice would be considered malpractice now, she said. Doctors, for example, treated some conditions with pelvic massages - in other words, they made their patients orgasm, she explained.
Novak explored how sexual medicine and perceptions of sexuality have evolved over time during a Science Cafe on Tuesday at The Slowdown.
Developed by the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Science Cafes feature local experts who discuss topics of interest in casual places, such as pubs or coffee houses.
Amy Lane, a director with BlueBarn Theater, also promoted the play "In the Next Room, or The Vibrator Play," which will show later this month.
