After a manhunt and arrests early Tuesday morning, more than 100 Bellevue residents turned out Tuesday evening for a meeting with police to discuss a series of car break-ins.
Police had arrested three Omaha men and recovered several guns following a 3:30 a.m. break-in in the Fontenelle Hills neighborhood.
The incident left neighboorhood residents on edge and police conducting a manhunt. Police checked motorists coming into and leaving the Fontenelle Hills area until about 7:30 a.m.
"We had some people in the neighborhood pretty shook up down here this morning," Capt. Mark Elbert told The World-Herald.
Police Chief John Stacey said the men are believed to have been involved in other car break-ins.
"This was the last neighborhood they were in," Stacey told the group gathered at the Fontenelle Hills clubhouse.
Officers said three men breaking into a car in Fontenelle Hills had been scared away by the car's owner, when he shouted at them.
Elbert said the men fled in a Toyota 4-Runner with a loaded .38-caliber handgun they had taken from the vehicle.
At the meeting of Ridgewood and Forest Drives, the 4-Runner left the road and headed down a steep embankment and into a ravine, Elbert said.
The men ran from the ravine. All were captured in about three hours.
A short shotgun, the .38-caliber handgun and other stolen items were recovered from the 4-Runner, Elbert said.
