Girlfriend accused in stabbing

By Andrew J. Nelson
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

A middle-aged Red Oak, Iowa, man has been hospitalized in Omaha after being stabbed during a weekend confrontation with a woman police described as his 24-year-old girlfriend.

The man's injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, said Lt. Derrick Walter of the Red Oak Police Department.

The couple fought in their apartment Saturday night in Red Oak, and authorities say the woman stabbed the man, 48, under his left armpit, police said.

The man was taken to Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, then flown by helicopter to Creighton University Medical Center.

Police arrested the woman on suspicion of attempted murder and on two counts of child endangerment. The couple's two children were present.

The children, ages 1 and 2, are staying with family elsewhere.
