Berlowitz, Seward settlement

Bellevue City Administrator Dan Berlowitz received $30,000 in his settlement with his former employer, the City of Seward, Neb.

Seward Mayor Josh Eickmeier said the money was covered by the city's insurance company. Additionally, he will receive a letter saying the issue has been resolved.

Berlowitz said earlier this month that the conclusion was not what he wanted but was acceptable. He did not specify the settlement details. He had asked for three years of pay — totaling $309,000 at his 2011 salary — as well as attorney fees and damages for defamation and loss of reputation.

Berlowitz's suit alleged that three councilmen filed a false report with the Nebraska State Patrol, accusing him of malfeasance and altering public documents. He also claimed that he was the target of malicious, false statements, was negligently supervised and was not afforded an opportunity to clear his name. The City of Seward and the councilmen disputed the allegations.
