Free help offered on taxes

The Omaha EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) Coalition offers free tax preparation and free federal and state e-file at a number of metro-area locations throughout the tax season. The service is for low-income tax-filers.

Some sites are Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program Neighborhood Financial Stability Centers at which customers can get a range of additional services. No appointments are needed at these VITA sites, which are all handicapped accessible:

» Completely Kids, 2566 St. Mary's Ave., use east door; English and Spanish; open 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays.

» Family Housing Advisory services, 3605 Q St.; English and Spanish; open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.

» Eastern Nebraska Community Action Program (ENCAP), 2406 Fowler Ave.; English; open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

» Metropolitan Community College Fort Omaha Campus, North 30th and Fort Streets, Building 10 (Writing Center), Room 209; English; open 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.

Some tax preparation sites require appointments. These handicapped accessible sites are:

» ENCAP, 1908 Hancock St. in Bellevue; English; open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays; call 402-292-2961 to schedule a time.

» Latino Center of the Midlands, 4821 S. 24th St.; English and Spanish; open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays; call 402-733-2720 to schedule a time; also open for walk-ins from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, Feb. 8 and Feb. 11.
