Lincoln portrayer to perform in Iowa

Spend "An Evening With President Lincoln" as the Donna Reed Foundation presents the fifth event in its "American Icon Series" at 7 p.m. Friday at the Donna Reed Theater in Denison, Iowa.

Richard F. "Fritz" Klein will play the role; he has portrayed Lincoln on the History Channel, Discovery Channel, National Geographic Television and C-Span.

Tickets are $15. They are available by calling the Donna Reed Theater, 712-263-3334.

Apply now to serve on Talking Book group

Three vacancies exist on the Advisory Committee to the Nebraska Library Commission Talking Book and Braille Service. The committee represents the needs of talking book and Braille borrowers and makes recommendations about library policies, services and programs.

Membership consists primarily of library users, but may include librarians, educators, health care providers and others who understand the needs of individuals with disabilities. The committee normally meets twice a year.

The Talking Book and Braille Service provides free talking books, magazines, playback equipment and Braille to any Nebraska resident who cannot see regular print or hold a book or turn its pages.

Writing Project seeks Nebraska teachers

The Nebraska Writing Project seeks qualified Nebraska teachers, kindergarten through 12th grade, to participate in two summer institutes on various aspects of writing education:

» Summer Institute (June 4-29, six graduate credit hours, up to $750 stipend) investigates the teaching of writing in all content areas. Participants will explore their own writing, share their best practices and engage in inquiry research.

» Humanities Institute: Focus on Social Justice (June 4-22, three graduate credit hours) examines connections among writing, reading and social justice across the curriculum.
